Abstract
AbstractThe cities in West Java grow and evolve in accordance with the development of trade. The city development in the West Java based on the concept of site selection. In addition, the pattern and structure of cities also have a certain symbolic significance, especially related to power. This study aims to determine the concept of topographical choice and pattern of Majalengka city. Through descriptive study, it was conducted a research about Majalengka city. The Majalengka city was built in the early 20th century. The concept of site selection follows the concept of warugan lemah. The pattern and structure of the city are divided into several blocks. The western part of the city is sacred while the eastern region was the profane part. Keywords: city, area, structure, meaning, sacred, profane AbstrakKota-kota di Jawa Barat tumbuh dan berkembang seiring dengan perkembangan perdagangan. Pembangunan kota di Jawa Barat dilandasi dengan konsep pemilihan lokasi. Selain itu pola dan struktur kota juga memiliki makna simbolis tertentu terutama berkaitan dengan kekuasaan. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui konsep pemilihan topografis dan pola Kota Majalengka. Melalui metode deskriptif telah dilakukan telaah terhadap Kota Majalengka. Kota Majalengka dibangun pada awal abad ke-20. Konsep pemilihan lokasi mengikuti konsep warugan lemah. Pola dan struktur kota terbagi dalam beberapa blok. Bagian barat kota merupakan kawasan sakral, sedangkan kawasan timur merupakan bagian profan. Kata kunci: kota, lahan, struktur, makna, sakral, profan
