Server Infrastructure Virtualization



Customers turn to us for digital infrastructure virtualization for a variety of reasons. Someone needs to use existing equipment more efficiently, someone needs to make the transition from old devices to new ones, someone needs to increase the degree of fault tolerance. When they say "fault tolerance", they imply the ability to quickly restore the operation of the information system in the event of a malfunction or not to interrupt work at all by running the setup in the background.

Data virtualization is ideal for these tasks. It allows you to make backup copies of any information with maximum convenience. When clusters are used, you can automatically restore the work of information systems in minutes. A cluster consists of several servers that perform certain tasks together.

We use the following technical solution: the virtual machines on the basis of which information systems operate are stored on the storage system, but running on servers. If one of the servers fails, the operation of these virtual machines on other servers is automatically restored. This is possible because the data is not stored on the server itself, but on the storage system. It usually takes only a few minutes to restore work.

Depending on the specific task, we use either failover clusters or load balanced clusters. In a failover cluster, all client requests are usually processed by a single node — the primary. The remaining nodes, one or more, almost do not work until the main one turns off. They are called additional nodes. In a load-balanced cluster, all nodes actively serve client requests, but even in this case, the cluster can work as fault-tolerant, since one or even several nodes can shut down almost without affecting other nodes.

Virtualization servers can be used on a wide range of scales - from providing small offices with computing power to creating infrastructure for large enterprises. Therefore, the configuration of the server is very important - it allows you to choose the necessary power to solve the tasks.

More efficient use of equipment. On one server, you can run significantly more tasks, more efficient use of equipment and, consequently, money spent.

High availability of information. In case of failure, you can recover information in minutes. Sometimes, due to clusters, failures do not affect the use of equipment at all.

Reduced energy costs. Due to the fact that more tasks are solved on a smaller number of servers, less electricity is spent on solving one particular task.

Saving physical space. Very often, customers have many old servers, and they acquire one new, and old ones are virtualized. All data is taken from the server, which turns into a virtual machine. Software running inside a physical machine (server) starts working on a virtual system inside another physical machine. It turns out that one server becomes the main one, and inside it there are many auxiliary virtual servers. This allows you to transfer information systems from old servers to new ones and then decommission the old servers.
